Bring Chicago Home

WE NEED YOU! Help us spread the Word to VOTE YES for a Fair Share for Affordable Housing aka Bring Chicago Home

March 19th is Election Day! We Are Still On The Ballot!

Our coalition to Bring Chicago Home continues talking to Chicago voters about how we address homelessness and fund housing. Bring Chicago Home is facing a legal attack from the real estate industry so it’s more important than ever that folks do what they can to support! We are still on the ballot as we see this fought out in the courts & still organizing. Let’s Let the Voters Decide!

What is Bring Chicago Home?

With over 68,000 people homeless in Chicago, the Bring Chicago Home coalition aims to create a dedicated revenue stream for the city to address homelessness by funding more permanent housing and supportive services. The proposal would be funded by changing the Real Estate Transfer Tax (RETT), a one-time tax on properties when they are sold, to a progressive structure. So properties sold for under a $1 million–roughly 96% of real estate sales in Chicago–would receive a tax cut, while properties sold for over $1 million would see a slight increase to the transfer tax. In order to enact this policy, Chicago voters need to VOTE YES on the referendum that will be on the March 19 primary ballot. For more information, go HERE

Election-Day Volunteering

Join us as a volunteer on election day, March 19th in support of the Bring Chicago Home referendum campaign. Together, we can address homelessness and housing instability in our city. We need all hands on deck to ensure Chicago voters VOTE YES to on ballot question #1.

Election day volunteers play a crucial role engaging and motivating voters to VOTE YES.

Volunteers can expect to engage in motivating conversations with voters and distribute information about the campaign at the polls, doors and on the phones. Volunteer for as much time as you are able!

Make a Video

We are holding a video contest to spread the word about Bring Chicago Home on social media. If you submit a video, you will be entered into a drawing for ONE Northside t-shirts, and a chance to be featured in our blog. The rules are simple:

  • Submit a short video (1 minute max) answering the question “Why do I support Bring Chicago Home?”
  • We especially want personal testimonies, mentioning if you or someone you know has experienced homelessness
  • This video could be shot on any video camera, could be a phone, computer, or fancy video camera
  • Good light, so we can see your face. Good sound, so we can hear your voice
  • If you need help creating this video, let us know! Help is available.
  • Horizontal/Landscape view only (this is so we can edit it together with other videos)
