We are proud to endorse our allies in office: Andre Vasquez (40th Ward Alderman), Matt Martin (47th Ward Alderman), and Maria Hadden (49th Ward) for re-election on February 28th, 2023.
All three have played key roles in our organizing victories over the last four years. From local community issues to city-wide policy making, Alders Vasquez, Martin, and Hadden have played a crucial co-governing role with ONE People’s Campaign.
Alderman Vasquez was an instrumental partner in brokering the Empowering Communities for Public Safety (ECPS) ordinance and has continued to support our work on public safety by championing our endorsed District Council slate in the 40th Ward and 20th Police District.
As the lead sponsor of Bring Chicago Home resolution and key partner to community based anti-violence and schools programs, Alderwoman Hadden has demonstrated her commitment over and over again to the values and issues of ONE People’s Campaign.
Alderman Martin also played a key role in advancing the ECPS ordinance and Bring Chicago Home ordinance, winning $5 million in funding for Single Room Occupancy hotels (SROs), and increased funding for mental health clinics.
These are only some of the highlights of our work over the last term. ONE People’s Campaign looks forward to four more years of co-governance and working together with Alders Vasquez, Martin, and Hadden to advance our shared values.
We are also proud to offer an endorsement to Mueze Bawany, who is challenging incumbent Alderwoman Deb Silverstein in the 50th Ward. Mueze is one of us – he grew up in West Rogers Park. As a young person, he personally experienced housing insecurity and found solace in the resources of Chicago Public Schools, public libraries, and community spaces. In office, Mueze will be a champion for our communities and will lead with love.
As a CPS teacher and organizer with CTU and United Working Families, Mueze has a strong track record of organizing and building power across difference – including running a campaign in 30+ languages. He is a champion of all of our issue campaigns, including Bring Chicago Home, Treatment Not Trauma, ECPS, and the Waitlist Transparency Ordinance.
Finally, we are excited to endorse Beth Rochford for 17th Police District Council, which covers Albany Park, Irving Park, and Avondale — parts of the 39th, 33rd, and 45th wards. Beth is a longtime member of the Police Accountability team and helped craft and pass the ECPS ordinance. Beth will join our nine other endorsed candidates for District Council, a historic new elected office we fought to create to increase police accountability and true community safety.
