Vote YES on Ballot Question 1

On March 19th, Chicagoans will get to vote directly on Bring Chicago Home–a ballot question that would create a permanent source of funding for affordable housing and service to combat homelessness! ONE People’s Campaign has endorsed the Bring Chicago Home referendum because we believe housing is a human right and no child should have to spend a Chicago winter night outside. We believe the people and corporations who are able to buy properties over $1 million can afford to pay more through a one-time tax to make sure everyone in our city has a safe, accessible, and affordable place to call home.

We need hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans to VOTE YES on Ballot Question 1 on March 19th. See more about why ONE People’s Campaign Endorses Bring Chicago Home

ONE People’s Campaign endorsed these candidates:

  • #61 – Sen. Mike Simmons for State Senate, Dist. 7
  • #71 – Rep. Hoan Huynh for State Representative, Dist. 13
  • #171 – Hon. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth, Democratic Committeewoman, 48th ward

These candidates submitted questionnaires and were interviewed by our Political Committee. They have a track record of fighting for more resources for our communities, such as funding for public schools, violence prevention programs, and affordable housing, and bringing in ONE People’s Campaign members to aid in their decision making (what we call co-governing).

This election, we are also recommending that you vote for Clayton Harris III (#93) for Cook County State’s Attorney. While we did not do a full endorsement process, we think the stakes are too high not to share who we think is the better candidate in this race. Our Police Accountability leadership team voted unanimously to recommend Clayton Harris.

Clayton Harris is running with a clear commitment to continuing the reform policies that have led to significant reductions in incarceration. He talks about the need to address root causes. And he is supported by many of our close allies including The People’s Lobby, Citizen Action Illinois, Asian Americans Advancing Justice, all the candidates we endorsed, and a broad range of other players that have worked hard for criminal justice reform, and the end of money bail and mass incarceration.

His opponent, Eileen O’Neill Burke has outraised Harris by more than 2-1, in part by taking huge amounts of money from corporate CEOs and hedge fund executives.  Burke is a huge threat to the progress our movement has made in criminal justice reform over the past decade. Burke is making commitments to roll back key reforms to our criminal legal system. And this week, the Police Union President John Catanzara endorsed Burke and asked Republican FOP members to pull Democratic ballots to vote for her.
