Grassroots leaders affirm Sen. Mike Simmons as progressive champion to represent far north side in Springfield.
ONE People’s Campaign (OPC) is pleased to endorse Hon. Mike Simmons in the IL-7th Senate District 2022 Democratic Primary election. Sen. Simmons has proven to be a strong champion for the issues of affordable housing, police accountability, universal access to healthcare and mental health services, addressing the climate crisis, and fully and equitably funded public schools and he is committed to co-governing with progressive organizations, including ONE People’s Campaign.
ONE People’s Campaign builds electoral power statewide around a progressive agenda. OPC organizes people who live on the front lines of the crises plaguing our society in Chicago and Central Illinois. Our members are united around a vision of a state and country in which all voices are heard and government serves the interests of the people and the planet, so that communities thrive and every person lives with joy and dignity.
“Senator Simmons’ own lived experience gave our members confidence that he understood the challenges everyday people face and that he will be a fierce advocate in Springfield for his constituents. He has a clear vision for how to make sure he is accountable to the realities people, especially single mothers and low-income residents, face in the district. His top priorities aligned with ours – expanding access to mental health services, particularly for youth, and creating protections and benefits for working parents. Having grown up in public housing, we know he is sensitive to the rapid gentrification this district faces and will be an advocate for affordable housing solutions,” said Lamont Burnett, member of ONE People’s Campaign’s Chicago Political Committee.
